 Colorado revised stature (C.R.S.) 42-2-132-5. Would be benefiting the first time dui offenders : 

As on August 8 2012 a law revision is expected that repeals and reenacts Colarado Revised Statue (CRS)  § 42-2-132.5. The former law made it mandatory for any motorist applying for early reinstatement after a DUI_ based conviction or revocation to still continue having the SR22 insurance policy for  a time line of over 3years or until the motorist’s license was restricted. As per the previous law the license could only be reinstated after 3 years for first time offenders who were not involved in a car accident at that time.

 Now as per the revised law DUI, DUI per se, or DWI, first time offenders are excused from the three year sr22 insurance requirement, if there is no accident at the time of the offence.

 The time line for the requirement of the SR22 insurance is only for the time “until the person has a restricted license “. This period would be as short as 4 months or only 3 years.

 Wow! It  would mean a free sr22 insurance policy and immediately getting into the personal lines auto rating system.  This would mean that you would be in the high risk category only for a period of 3 months.
