How to avoid a dui..its better than finding afforable dui insurance

No driver ever intends to get a DUI. Unfortunately, this does happen. The good news is that there are some helpful tips to help you avoid getting a DUI and keep those auto insurance rates from going up.

Everyone knows that you should get a designated driver when you go out drinking. However, circumstances do come up when you find that you’ve had too much to drink, and you didn’t designate a driver beforehand. Prepare for these situations in advance. Make a pact with a good friend to be each other’s standing designated driver. Keep your buddy’s number on hand, and don’t hesitate to call him for a ride home. Then, keep up your end of the bargain and answer when he calls, too.

Another tip is to use alternate transportation. You can always call a taxi, ride public transportation, or even walk home. Don’t worry about how you will get your car. You can always leave it and pick it up later. You should be more concerned with your safety than with your car’s safety.

One way to avoid a DUI is to go out drinking without your car. Don’t drive to the bar or to the party. This is a surefire way to keep you from getting behind the wheel. Take the bus or ride with a friend. Make plans for how you will get home before you start drinking. Then, make sure others know your plan in case you find yourself in the position of not being able to remember how you will get home.

A great idea is to buy your own portable breathalyzer machine. This is a great device to have because it takes the guesswork out of whether you are capable of driving or not. You simply blow into the machine, and the machine will let you know exactly what your blood alcohol level is. This can really help you when you might not be in the best condition to make a decision about your driving abilities.

When you have only had a drink or two and can drive, you should avoid all distractions in the car. This means you should turn off the radio, put down your cell phone, and put away your GPS device. Keep both hands securely on the wheel, and focus completely on the road and your driving.

Watch your speedometer. You don’t want to cause unnecessary attention to your driving by going too slowly. However, you don’t want to speed either. Pay attention to the posted speed limits, and try to stay right under those limits as an added precaution. If you find that you can’t focus on your speed, then you need to pull over immediately and call someone to come get you.

If you do get pulled over, you need to remain calm. Always be pleasant to the officer who approaches your car. If you act nervous or catch a nasty attitude, the officer will be more likely to push the issue. Respect the officer’s authority and comply with his requests. You don’t want more problems because you wanted to catch an attitude or because you refused to follow the officer’s directions.

You can avoid a DUI just by taking a few precautions. Plan ahead, know your limits, and drive carefully to make sure you never have to endure the pain involved in getting a DUI.
