DUI and SR22 insurance rates and SR22 form
Fred : How long will I be punished for DUI? How will DUI affect my SR22 rates?
Response : Fred, the court-ordered probation for DUI offence usally last for 3 to 5 years. It is mandatory to be insured during this period and an SR-22 form must be maintained fro three years. During this period the offender must also not commit any criminal offenses, drive under influence of wine or alcohol, give a chemical test when requested and pay the fine for assessment or restitution.
When the underwriter rates the SR22 than the basic factors of consideration are like age, marital status, driving history, driving experience, the purpose of use of vehicle and your geographical area of residence. DUI and Sr22 is considered as a high risk and so there are few companies which underwrite this insurance and hence the premiums are high. The premium charged is approximately 30-40% higher than normal. Normally there are fewer companies who offer this coverage and that is another reason why the rates are high. SR-22 is only a certificate that proves you have met the states financial responsibility (insurance) requirements.
It is best to obtain comparative auto insurance quotes online which are generally available for free and save your money with cheaper or competitive auto insurance quotes.
